Public space intervention.

Plaza Liberación, Guadalajara, México.

October 18th, 2010.

2010, I walk dressed as a nun asking for money to build the fake temple of St. Marina –Abramović-, to raise the money I used a moneybox with the main image of the exhibition “The artist is present” (portrait with flowers, 2009), at MOMA 2010. Three years later Marina Abramović started a Kickstarter campaign to found the MAI (Marina Abramović Institute), the money collected (153 mexican pesos) was send to support.

Santa Marina is a satire on the blind credibility, even in spite of ignorance. At the same time it is a reflexion of the ritual property of Performance Art and its spiritual and meditative ways of production, putting the discipline in the same place as the Catholic Churchsanctifying Abramović and comparing her work to the role of a martyr: A person who suffers or dies with resignation for defending their ideals.

UTOPIA

Casa Viva, Mexico City, Mexico.

April 26th, 2019

I wrote a message in a mirror with red lipstick: "I loved you honestly and I have never acted with the intention of hurting you". Then, I wrote in 16 white plates reproaches and violent phrases of my past love relationships, one by one I broke the dishes on the mirror following a trajectory, my feet got hurt in the course due to the remains of mirror and porcelain. The action ends when I place myself inside a transparent refractory filled with cold water.

The phrases:

1. You are selfish

2. You don’t give a fuck about me.

3. You are never there when I need you.

4. You never loved me.

5. Are you dating someone else?

6. You don’t care about our house.

7. You exaggerate your looks to get favors.

8. This is all your fault.

9. How do you have plans with friends? I wanted to see you TODAY.

10. I do not like that friend of yours.

11. The responsibility is partially yours, you should not get drunk.

12. I do not want to see you anymore, better stay with your friends.

13. You are the only person I can love.

14. You only care about your work.

15. I'll be better without you.

16. The only thing you did was abandon me.

Cisma (Schism) is by definition the separation of a person from an organization or movement - from "the whole" - originated by disagreement to a dominant ideology or doctrine but with the preservation of hope and faith in shared ideals.

The breakup in a relationship works in the same way. Romantic love seeks the imperishable and unconditional, so a flaw in the system forces us to return to the search for "true love" while preserving faith in its existence. On the other hand, the idea of eternal love romanticizes domestic violence by comparing resistance with loyalty and unconditionality. In this context, the dynamics of control are disguised as attentions and amorous manifestations that show, on one hand, great interest and on the other, a false vulnerability that favors the exercise of manipulation for the permanence of the other party.
